Hello! And hopefully, Welcome Back! If you haven’t already, check out Part 1 of this 2 part Minimalism series to see how all of this got started. In summary, I decided to spend the month and get rid of at least 1 item a day. It’s pretty simple math, 1 item a day for 30 days, that’s 30 items gone. You guys, I’ve gotten rid of over 150 items! And I’m still going through things and getting rid of stuff.
So before I deep dive into what I got rid of so far, let me take a step back and provide so more color to the story. I realized several weeks ago that I’ve been living in a fog. It started feeling like I couldn’t get any traction on cleaning my house and all the clutter was distracting me and, quite frankly, making me anxious. Our little apartment still didn’t feel like home no matter how much decor I bought. I had accumulated a lot of stuff and it was cluttering my life. That’s why when I caught wind of the whole minimalism movement I thought, “What the hey, I’d rather throw out some things a lose a few bucks if I can find my peace of mind.” I knew when I was finally able to navigate our apartment without regularly losing something, that I’d be so much more at ease.
So here’s the breakdown of what I got rid of over the last month:
- 117 articles of clothing
- 24 bottles of old/unwanted hair products
- 8 old/unwanted beauty products
- 15 kitchen dishes
- 5 wall decorations
- Lots of random trash
As you can tell, I had an obscene amount of clothes that I don’t even need. I still have lots of clothes and shoes. I never got around to certain parts of our apartment, but as I’m getting to Spring Cleaning I already see more places to minimize in my life. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks, I’ll have a simpler, clutter-free home and a very clear head.
If you decided to join in on this challenge, what did you get rid of? If you’re new to minimalism, how do you think it would benefit you? Let me know in the comments below.
